The meter has been designed to be resistant to tampering but Tenants may devise ways to bypass the meter.
Landlords should manage their risk by monitoring usage against amounts collected and conduct site inspections where required.
Metro recommends that Property Owners consider split metering (housing the meter and keypad separately) where tampering risk is HIGH. Our Sales Team or Help Desk can advise you.
MMetro Prepaid basis its tariff on the relevant Municipal (or Eskom) tariffs.
On instruction from the Property Owner we can change tariff to an alternative municipal tariff.

Metro Prepaid pays the Property Owner during the 1st week of every month; usually on the 1st business day.
Metro Prepaid is a leading prepaid service provider and has built a reputation for integrity and reliability.
Owners who have concerns about the assurance of payments may refer to our Self-Vend options.
Metro Prepaid collects the token receipts from the tenants for their usage and pays this money to the Property Owners so that they may top up their Council prepaid meter or pay their credit account with the council or Eskom.
Metro does NOT pay the Council or Eskom bill.
As a fixture the meter will transfer to the new Owner unless the parties agree otherwise. The new Owner must contact our Help Desk on 087 354 5566 immediately after transfer to arrange the transfer of the prepaid meter to their name.
Metro Prepaid services and costs including the generating of tokens, bank charges, administration and collection fees.
Depending on the owner’s instructions, the fee can either be deducted from the amount recovered for the owner or it can be added to the tariff.

This is a collection service fee, when you buy tokens in stores, at ATM’s via credit cards, this is included in Metro Prepaid’s administration fee.
If your Metro Prepaid sub meter is stolen please report the theft to the police and inform our Help Desk of the meter number so that we can block the meter.
The stolen meter will not be able to be used whilst blocked.
Yes, please contact the Metro Prepaid Help Desk and ask to zero the credit quoting your meter number.
The battery keypad (for the water meter) can’t be replaced.
The keypad must be returned to the Wholesaler/Seller where you purchased the meter.
If the meter is within the Warranty period, the keypad will be replaced for free.
Ask a trusted local plumber (water meter) or electrician (electricity meter) to install the meter for you
Metro meters are available from electrical and plumbing wholesalers across South Africa. Call us on 087 354 5566 for registration and to activate the meter.
This depends on the usage, but it is expected to last an average of 5 years for water meters.
Metro electricity meters are designed to work 15-20 years under normal conditions
Utility Systems water meters typically run for 3-5 years before the internal battery runs low and the meter needs to be replaced.
The Service Agreement with Metro Prepaid has an indefinite duration, but may be cancelled by either party giving 30 days written notice.
Metro Prepaid will charge you an administration fee to generate key change tokens within the first year of service.

| It is your resposibility as the Property Owner to notify us of any changes to your main meter’s tariff |
If you’ve lost your Metro Token you do not need to worry as we are able to see all the transactions made for your meter on our Vending System. Simply contact us with the Meter number and we will send the token through to you.
